In an effort to highlight some of the successes of our lacrosse players in Stamford, we are creating an Alumni Spotlight page on our website.

Today, two former SLA members were awarded a NCAA National Letter of Intent.  Spencer Decker is headed to the University of Vermont.  He plays midfield for Brunswick School and is also a three year member of the varsity football team.

Sean Morris chose the University of North Carolina.  Also a midfielder, was co-captain racked up 50 career points (42 goals, eight assists) through his junior year at Brunswick School.  Sean also served as captain of the football team.

If you know of any former SLA players who have gone on to play lacrosse in college, please email and we will add them to our Alumni Spotlight.

Coach Pete Receives Mickey Lione Jr Fund Mara Award

Mickey Lione Jr. Fund Mara Award

The Wellington Mara Award recognizes an exemplary individual who volunteers time and talent to provide opportunities for youngsters in any city-sanctioned, nonprofit sports league in Stamford. The award includes a $2,500 contribution to the nonprofit organization for which the individual volunteers.

In creating a youth-coaching award, the Lione Fund continues to support and perpetuate the values that made Wellington Mara a legendary sports leader. He believed that the valuable qualities and lessons that can be learned on the field of play should, if well taught, carry over to all aspects of life. He taught by instruction but, more importantly, by example. The Lione Fund reinforces this ideal and these qualities in the naming of this award after Mr. Mara, who held himself to the highest standards of honor and respect for self, family, and community.
